Grade 1 Fine Art
Visual Art
This video shows a piece of art from each student through August to December. We used quite a range of materials, some that they had never been exposed to before and we even managed to explore photography and colouring clay! We learnt a lot about the elements of art through using a variety of lines and shapes. We created value in colour by adding white to make it lighter and black to make it darker. We explored form in our clay rose, space in our kite flying, and texture by using lines, layering paint and using bubble wrap. We celebrated Cambodian Heritage with our Lotus watercolour and many other projects too numerous to mention! Hope you enjoy our video!
Music
This term, students worked on finding and keeping a steady beat, high and low sounds, the four voices (singing, speaking, whispering, shouting), quarter and eighth notes and the Curwen hand signals for the solfege scale (Do,Re,Mi,Fa,Sol,La,Ti). They learned and experienced these concepts through different songs and games. They played several instruments, including the Boomwhackers, bells and bamboo sticks to work on mastering hand grip technique and starting and stopping with visual cues. Students used body percussion and objects from their homes to accompany different songs and guess mystery sounds online and in class. They echoed and created simple rhythmic patterns and they followed musical charts to practice rhythmic reading.
