Visual Art

Form

Students studied the Element of Art Form in this chalk pastel piece. The purpose of this work is to create a realistic looking solid shape, incorporating a light side and shadowed side. Other concepts explored were cast shadow, background, midground, foreground, and finally a review of color theory.

Window to the Soul

Portraiture, whether realistic or abstract, is one of five major genres found in art. These varied pieces hold one common thread, an eye is the focus or emphasis of the piece. Students then self-selected visual symbols to convey their personal identity. They finished their work with some form of value (shading) whether in color or in graphite.

Music

Drama

This semester, students began with a cross-curricular Drama and CTF radio play unit. The unit started with the history of radio plays along with the basic elements of this genre. Students were then tasked with creating their own audio recordings taking into account vocal elements and sound design. This required students to create their own sound effects and soundscapes with items commonly found at home. The unit concluded with students recording their own radio play based off of the work of author Robert Munsch. Following radio plays, students presented various scenes in the BlackBox theatre with a heavy focus on character development centered around Uta Hagen’s 9 essential questions for actors. Students needed to consider the character’s backgrounds, surroundings, motivations and relationships to others. This unit encouraged students to better understand the characters they were playing, enabling them to bring the dialogue to life.
